Subject: Important Security Update for the .NET Messenger Service

"If you are not using an updated version [of Microsoft Messenger], you will be unable to continue using your MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger Service. please visit:
http://messenger.msn.com/Help/Upgrades.aspx for an update."

As if its not bad enough that I have to put up with system tray and messenger spam all the time, now I get it in my Inbox too? In the name of security?

Someone please tell me this is a hoax.

Dave points out that "...there are two schools of thought about aggregators. One says that they should work like a mail reader, the other that it should work like a weblog."

I've mentioned this before, but there are really three schools. The third simply states that the best software is the one that gives users enough freedom of choice that they can effectively deal with the attendant data on terms defined by the user. Forcing me to choose between "this application and that does things this way" and "that application that does things that way" is not the equivalent of letting me deal with the data on my own terms.
