Tucows is a funny place to work sometimes.

Cool. But funny.

We just recently launched a new website that covers the corporate end of things. You know, the usual "About Us", "Executive Team", "Dorky Investor Stuff" etc. We wanted a homy feel to things that really reflected the laid-back culture that we've cultivated over here. Typically this means that the clipart gets trotted out and meaningless pictures of people you don't know get stuck on the web page.

Not us though. Use rights for clipart is pretty expensive and I know for a fact that no one over here was willing to spend more than $6 for a license to use an image - never mind several. So what did we do? Took our own pictures.

Usually this means "disaster in the making" as far as websites go - but this one turned out pretty good if I do say so. Each of the people shots that you see on the corporate site are shots taken of people that actually work here by a guy that actually works here. Marketing deserves a healthy pat on the back for this one...

I definitely love the results.

And now you know what I mean about this being a funny place to work. Too cheap to do what a marketing drone would typically want to do and thereby ending up with some pretty cool results. Funny that.

:-)
