I started smoking shortly after I started Grade 9. I wish I'd finished smoking at the same time I finished school, but I kept going for another 14 years or so until I quit a few years back.
I wish I'd seen an ad like this when I was in Grade 8.

Be honest, that wouldn't have changed your mind at that age. I too started smoking at 14 and wouldn't have cared about such an ad. What *possibly* could have worked would be to make smokers out to be the stereotype band geek. Not that being in band is bad, nor is being a smart fellow. But meeting that stereotype would be a fate worse than death.
They need to equate smoking to carrying a clarinet case while wearing a pocket protector and having acne on top of acne. These may not be horrible things but the *notion* is what teens fear most. My wisdom is good but inexpensive... that'll be a nickel. |
