Here's an interesting experiment - take a snippet from the nonsense spam that you just received and google it. For instance, searching this string

"Since Andy started reviewing the Networking Guide and editing the copies I sent him"

The result set shows that the spammer scooped the text from "The Network Administrators' Guide".

It also shows that this same spam is showing up in a bunch of mailing list archives and web forums.

Again, one would think that the brainiacs over at Google could play a strong role in helping us contain spam - or at least deal with it better. But natch, no effort here either.

At the very least they could clean up their ranking and results to get rid of the dupes and archives of this crap. Legitimate links for this search aren't even in the top five (which is probably okay given the obscurity of the search).
