Jeff Jarvis: "I'm as freaked as the next guy at scenes from China Syndrome. But it's time to get over our nuclear jitters."

Jeff is totally spot on with this post - the likes of which I would normally expect from Dave Pollard - its time to do something about our dependance on oil. Now.

Get on your bike, buy a hybrid, walk to the store.  Oil is killing us and thirty years after figuring this out, we still haven't done much to deal with it. C'mon folks.

afrol News "The US government does "not intend to stand by while violence and atrocities continue in Darfur," a US State Department official said, warning the Sudanese government it had to cooperate putting an end to humanitarian crisis in Darfur. "Do not doubt our determination," he told the Khartoum government. A military intervention is being considered." C  |  T (25)  |  #
Just finished watching the federal leadership debate. What a fun way to spend a Tuesday night. The high points?

Layton ruffling Martin's feathers - repeatedly. Nice job there.

Trying to figure out if Layton's hands were actually his or whether they belonged to someone standing behind him *pretending* that they were Layton's hands.

First place in the "Best shot to the head" category goes to Stephen Harper for this gem; "Quebecers deserve to have a better choice than corruption and separation." in reference to the predominantly Liberal v. Bloc ballots found throughout Quebec.

Paul Martin didn't strike me as being a statesman - unless being a statesman means "I like making words up". "Weaponization of space"? "Pan-Canadian"? Personally I think that "extra-terrestrial militarization" and "national" would have sufficed.

He also seemed to confuse "I've said this 1000 times" with "Don't you understand what I'm trying to say" several times

Rural News: "South Korea extends ban on US beef "

How come I haven't heard about this through more local media? Shouldn't Canada be taking similar precautions to protect our industry and the health of our citizens? C (2)  |  T (65)  |  #
StraitsTimes: "The scandal flared on Monday, triggering a public outcry and a plunge in dumpling sales. On Tuesday, Japan's Health Ministry stopped processing dumpling imports from South Korea, effectively banning their entry."

Wow - and I thought Canadian ranchers had it bad. I can't imagine what those thousands of Korean dumpling farmers are going through! C  |  T (61)  |  #

The Tehran Times: "Rebels in west Sudan's Darfur region have seized nine trucks loaded with relief items, medicines and tents on the road linking Nyala in Southern Darfur with Al-Fashir in North Darfur..."

Despite hopeful news from Sudan earlier this week, the region is far from stable and a massive loss of human life seems imminent.

Yahoo! News : "the ban of mobile phones might have been imposed after the North's security service decided that a deadly train blast in the town of Ryongchon in April was triggered by mobile phones in a botched attempt to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-il."

Hmmm. This makes what RIAA did to Napster look like a kids game.

  IOL:
Nairobi - Sudan's government and southern rebels have resolved key disputes in peace talks, removing hurdles blocking a comprehensive deal to end Africa's longest-running civil war, host Kenya said on Tuesday.

The agreements will not cover another war that has raged for over a year in Sudan's Darfur region, creating what the United Nations says is one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
